Whether it’s a meal prep day, skin prep day, clean your space day, or all of the above, GYST day is a chance for you to get your **** together. The term originally created by Youtuber Kalyn Nicholson (link to her youtube channel below) can be personalized to include whatever makes you feel more organized. And who doesn’t want to be more organized? Those of us with Monday-Friday, 9-5 jobs can make every Sunday a GYST day. Those of us who are shiftworkers can schedule it as we go, based on what our calendars are for that week. Regardless of what day you choose, having a day to get your **** together will help your life go more smoothly.
GYST days can be designed to include whatever will make your life feel better. Personally I like to do a combination of two GYST days based on my schedule. One being my cleaning & healthyfying day, the other being a day of beautification.
GYST Day 1
Clean your space
I find that when my space is clean and fresh, that my mind feels less cluttered and more peaceful. Take the time to clean your home from top to bottom (laundry, vacuuming, putting away garbage & the list goes on). My sister read somewhere that you should clean each room in a counter clockwise fashion and now I also use that technique. Basically you keep moving in one direction leaving a clean space behind you & only going backwards to put something in its’ rightful place.
Organize your week
Once the space is clean, I sit down & write a to do list & a grocery list for the week. If I can, I usually start knocking things off the list or going to get my groceries. This is also a good time to reach out to any friends you haven’t seen or spoken with in awhile. In the midst of working and running errands, some of your relationships may suffer and this is a good time to fit everyone into your schedule. Also take a peak at your finances, schedule your bill payments & double check that your budget is still alive :)!
Now I’ll be honest here, I don’t do as much meal prepping as I should BUT I do try to organize what I plan to eat for the week. I start by looking for healthy recipes on Pinterest. I then double check that I have the necessary ingredients. This is especially important when you’re working a couple of days in a row. Your life will be easier if instead of scrambling for a meal, your food is already prepared ahead of time and ready to go. Now that I have an Instapot (shoutout to all my Instapot lovers!) I find meal prepping alot easier.
Inspire your mind
In the perfect world you would be able to do this everyday, but once a week is more achievable. Find something to rewire & reset your thoughts. It may be that you need a source of encouragement that pushes you to focus on your goals. Or something uplifting to bring some happiness or calm into your life. Whatever it might be, mentally recharge your mind to 100%. There are alot of Youtube videos, podcasts or blogs (hello!) that are uplifting & inspirational, find one that suits your needs.
GYST Day 2
Beauty, beauty, beauty
When you look good you feel good! (No clue where that quote is from but I stand by it 100%). There’s something about feeling your best that puts your entire life back on track. You walk with confidence and your mood doubles in positivity! Take an extra long shower with good beats pumping over the speakers. Put on a face mask, deep condition your hair or polish your nails. This is a day filled with everything you need to not only look but also feel presentable to the world.
Having a dedicated GYST day forces me to take the time to get my life together. Now that I’ve incorporated these rituals into my routine, I don’t feel as overwhelmed with the tasks that I need to accomplish. My to do lists are actually getting done and things aren’t always piling up & bursting at the seams. I strongly encourage you to add your own personalized GYST day to your routine. Even if it’s only one evening to help you feel better about yourself for the rest of the week. Let me know what you end up trying out in the comments below! I raise my wine glass to all your future GYST days!
As I mentioned earlier, the term GYST day was introduced to me by Kalyn Nicholson. Please send her some love on Youtube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC-CZmKnJbjGWAzJd6cIVUMg. Not only does she have videos about her version of GYST days but she also has other inspirational videos that may benefit you. This post is in no way affiliated with Kalyn Nicholson and these opinions are all my own.
